What makes us similar as Americans is stronger than what divides us. While it may appear that our country is as polarized as ever, in reality, it doesn’t take much digging to find common ground.

Here are a few issues almost all Americans can agree on and how we can all come together on these issues to make America a more prosperous and free nation.

1. The U.S. government is not working for the American people

You’re not alone if you feel like the government no longer has the best interests of the American people at heart. In fact, you’d be among the majority of Americans who think the government is currently leading us down the wrong path.

A July 2023 poll from Echelon Insights found that 64% of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track. Similarly, a poll from the Associated Press discovered that only 21% of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction.

As the government forces the majority of Americans down a road they don’t want to be led down, it’s no surprise that many Americans are starting to view the government as a barrier to prosperity.

A Gallup poll from May found Americans view the government itself as being the most important problem facing the U.S. The problems caused by the government ranked above economic, immigration, and inflation issues.

2. Government-driven inflation is making life harder for all Americans

87% of Americans believe spending by the federal government is at least somewhat to blame for inflation, according to a recent YouGov poll. Why? In part because Americans increasingly believe the government is spending too much.

With only 37% of Americans thinking the government spent too much in 2020 to 60% feeling that way now, this is quickly becoming one of the issues almost all Americans can agree on.

While government-driven inflation is an issue almost all Americans can agree on, it doesn’t make putting up with this harsh reality any easier.

As of May this year, 61% of Americans said inflation is causing them financial hardship. 76% said the economy is in poor condition and 59% say the state of the economy is continuing to get worse.

Unfortunately, this issue is only going to worsen further if the government continues barreling down the same path.

3. Energy should, and can, be more affordable

While Americans may be split on when, how, and if to make switches to more renewable energy, one thing is clear— most Americans agree that this change shouldn’t happen overnight. In fact,  68% of Americans say the U.S. should “use a mix of fossil fuels and renewables.”

For many, the reasoning behind this is affordability. 54% of Americans think “increasing domestic oil production” would decrease inflation and 52% believe transitioning away from fossil fuels would increase the prices we all pay for everyday goods.

Solutions to the issues almost all Americans can agree on

The issues we agree on as an American people are clear— and their solutions can be too.

The first step is to ensure our collective voice is heard and despite our differences, we come together to fight for the issues we do agree on. That’s what the Prosperity is Possible Tour is all about.
